CO Call at the Greenhill
Date: 06.22.2017

Just after 7PM the company was dispatched to the Greenhill Condos for a carbon monoxide (CO) activation from a 4th floor unit which was called in by an alarm company. Engine 21 arrived just as the residents were returning home. As crews began to walk down the hallway our multi-gas meters began to alarm that there were elevated CO readings. The fire alarm was then pulled to evacuate the residents.

The balance of the company responded and took control of the elevator to help move a number of semi-ambulatory residents. Additional manpower was requested bringing Station 26 Narberth Fire Company, Air 24 from Gladwyne Volunteer Fire Company to fill our breathing apparatus, as well as Medic 313 Narberth Ambulance. Crews worked for almost two hours evacuating residents, investigating the source of the problem, and ventilating multiple floors, all of which had elevated CO readings. The source was pinpointed to the hot water heater, which was shut down by PECO, and residents were able to return to their units. Special thanks to Lower Merion Police for helping evacuate residents.
